Talking with a child about a family change
30 July 2026 · 5 min read
A move, a separation or a new sibling changes a child's daily routine. Children cope better when they hear about it from a parent, in simple words, before it happens.
Say what will change and what will stay the same. Younger children need to hear the same explanation several times.
Expect some changes in sleep or behaviour for a few weeks. If they last longer, a few counselling sessions for you as a parent can help.
