When to ask for a developmental evaluation

Parents often notice something before anyone else does: a child who talks less than others the same age, who finds it hard to sit through a story, or who reacts strongly to small changes.

An evaluation is useful when the question has been there for a few months, or when a teacher or doctor raises it too. It does not have to wait for a school report.

The evaluation itself is a set of standardised tasks and a conversation with you. For young children most of it looks like play.

At the end you receive a written report with the results and concrete recommendations for home and school.
